Ummm, the first day of summer, obvs!
A few finds from around the interwebz to help this be the best summa, evah!
Pretty much all of these 60 summer must-dos are awesome
Pump up the (old school summer) jams!
Don’t just say you’re gonna do awesome things, actually make time to do them
Make all the delicious, summery, fruity drinks your heart desires
Lay out in the hammock/deck chair/beach/patio and indulge in some light reading. My summer faves include: Summer Sisters by Judy Bloom, The Last Summer (of You and Me) by Ann Brashares, Carry Me Home by Sandra Kring, The Bungalow by Sarah Jio, and anything by Jen Lancaster. I recently devoured The Best of Us by Sarah Pekkanen. Mindy Kaling’s Is Everyone Hanging out Without Me? was also fabulous – definitely perfect for vacation or a cottage weekend. Into political-mystery-drama? Try David Baldacci.
Make sure you check these things off your summer checklist before the end of August.
In Toronto? Or the GTA? Consider: A Jays game. Or up for a little roadie – go to the Jays farm team, the Buffalo Bisons on a Friday night (go any day you like, but there are fireworks on Fridays). Eating everything at the food pavillion at the CNE (ice cream waffle sandwiches and mini doughnuts top my list). Free outdoor movies – there are so many locations in the city.
Don’t forget lots of bbqs and patio dinners. Sunsets by the lake. Sangria and iced coffee. And sunscreen – lots of sunscreen.
And I’d never turn down some summer nights lovin’ (Sandy and Danny styles).
What should I add to my list? Any good books? Delicious (easy) summer recipes? What are your summer plans? (I’m starting my summer off with a Jays game Sunday then a week at my parents lakehouse, and counting down the weeks till Seattle and Calgary)
